Abstract:
Dr. Frye shares his experience and insights about how scientific knowledge has continually led to significant improvements in the care of injured patients and casualties both in war and peace.
Bio:
Having served in the Army Reserves as a Preventive Medicine Officer Darrin L. Frye, M.D., now operates in the JPC-6 office within the United States Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC), supporting the J-9 (Research and Development Directorate), Defense Health Agency, and the Army Futures Command. He provides oversight support and assistance in the visioning, research, and development of Defense Health capabilities that will enable military health care providers to protect and treat warfighters so they may continue to dominate on the battlefields of today and tomorrow.
Prior assignments include the 807th Medical Command, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom 2001-2007. In 2003, mobilized by Task Force Ironhorse with the 4th Infantry Division, he provided medical mission support for deploying soldiers. Mobilized 2007-2008 as Brigade Surgeon for 414th Civil Affairs BGE, deployed to Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, attached to 1st Calvary Division for medical and civil affair operations. Deployed 2010 to Iraq with 478th Civil Affairs Battalion, subsequently attached to 1st Armored Division, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Military Awards are the Bronze Star, Iraqi Campaign (2 stars), Meritorious Service, National Defense, Global War on Terrorism, Armed Forces Reserve (M Device) Medals; Army Service Ribbon. He received International Physician Hero Award from the Palm Beach Medical Society and a Civilian Service Commendation Medal at Ft. Detrick.
Dr. Frye is a national and international speaker, with over 30 years of experience in military and civilian medicine. He is a Kansan, born in the heartland of America, where he received his bachelor’s degree in human biology and an M.D. from the University of Kansas. He began his research career at the Ralph Smith Human Development Research Center, under the mentorship of neurophysiologist, Dr. Fred Samson. His expansive career path began in the operating rooms of Pasadena, California, and led to Palm Beach, Florida where he completed his medical residency in Preventive Medicine and received his M.P.H from Florida International University. Since arriving in the DC area 4 years ago, he has focused on innovative biomedical technologies, neurobehavioral and simulation sciences for the Department of Defense. His work on personalized nutrition, biomimetics, and Brain Operant Learning Technology (BOLT) are prime examples of his leading-edge explorations designed to maximize human potential.
